The spectacular Grand Palace and the magnificent Royal Barge Procession, examples of Thailand’s world-renowned cultural identity, have been transformed into decorative bas-relief designs, created by artisan’s hammering a silvery metal sheet to form the embossed images. This craftsmanship has been handed down from one generation to another for over seven hundred years. The background of these bas-relief images is embellished, in an orderly manner, with the embossed APEC 2022 monograms, which have been inspired by the “Chalom” basket or a local perforated basket woven from bamboo strips. These embossed monograms are arranged to form one of the basic Thai designs, the Prachamyam design. The picture frame is made of recycled, silvery metal embossed with a local Lanna design. That this craftwork has been created by artisan’s hammering the metal sheet over one hundred thousand times to produce intricate images has given rise to its name, “Rajata Saen Tok” or “Silver Hammered One Hundred Thousand Times into Exquisite Designs).
